Project Introduction
This project was developed in multiple modules for academic purposes and later tailored to mirror some training content I developed at UPS. While the main client for this project was my professor and the client for the tailored content was internal to UPS.
I used Articulate Storyline as it was the industry favorite interactivity tool and it was a good learning opportunity. Using Storyline also helped me with the LMS used at UPS. I proposed designing a short, minimal text-based module that reviews the required topics. The client approved this approach.
Design Approach
After deciding the topic for my project, i started working on high level design document, project plan and submitted them for client review. Then I started working on developing the content and designing the storyboard and submitted them for review. Once the client approved them, the development of the module using storyline turned out to be easy.
I decided to concentrate my instructional design approach to main task
Reduce cognitive load by including less text on slide, include relevant visuals.
Include Learner freedom by giving them freedom to choose and reference the material they want so encourage positive and need based learning.
Including relevant images, graphics and charts helped in keeping learner focused for the duration of training.
Two principles reducing cognitive load and including learner freedom guided my approach throughout the project.
Presenting content like this slide gave them an opportunity to learn more without forcing information on them.
I used click based interactivity to engage and manage learner cognitive load, when the learner clicked on purple rectangles they were presented with the option to learn more.
Including slides with minimal text like this one reduced the learner cognitive load and helped in maintaining the learner focus for the duration of training.
